The
Mission Statement, which guides the work of STLPI
reads as follows:
"The objects for which the company is established are to provide a service for the relief of poverty and disadvantage through the provision for the needs of Lone Parents in the South Tipperary region and in particular without prejudice to the generality of the foregoing through the provision of information services, child minding facilities, training and counselling services to Lone Parents."
History
and Background:
South Tipperary Lone Parent Initiative
recognises one-parent families as equal in society.
The project aims to give lone parents opportunities
to be self-reliant and progress.
Offering information, support and training in a safe
and confidential environment, to anyone who parents alone.
In December 1993
South Tipperary Lone Parent Initiative was
incorporated as a Company Limited by Guarantee, not
having share capital and was granted Charitable
Status.
Aims
and Objectives:
The
work of South Tipperary Lone Parent Initiative is
guided by the following principles:
"SUPPORTING
PARENTS PARENTING ALONE"

Openness
to all lone parents irrespective of gender, class,
race or ethnicity, religion, marital status,
sexual orientation, ability or non ability.

A
belief that lone parents have the right to be
active in the running, direction and management
of South Tipperary Lone Parent Initiative.

A
commitment to be flexible and open to change as a
means of proactively responding to the needs of
lone parents.
Goals:

To ensure that South
Tipperary Lone Parent Initiative has sound
structures which will ensure the successful
achievement of its mission statement.

Regularly
and proactively inform ourselves about the current
needs of lone parents so as to ensure the
relevance of our services.

Provide
a central and accessible location for lone parents
to access information, support, friendship, and
understanding and to be a focal point of referral
to other relevant services.

Raise
the profile of our project and increase awareness
among lone parents of the services and supports on
offer.

Be
a voice to air issues on behalf of lone parents,
and lobby on their behalf to achieve changes in
relevant policies.

Provide
an outreach service to lone parents, which
encourages, assists, and supports them, and raise
their awareness of supports and services available
to them.
