What happens at Carrick Community Parent and Toddler Group ?

Carrick Community Parent and Toddler group involves young children and their parents, grandparents or childminders coming together, once a week.  Parents and minders can meet to compare notes, develop friendships, avoid isolation and build confidence.  It is especially helpful for parents who do not have family support close by.  The parents/adults stay with their children and remain responsible for them while they are at the group.  The children play, have fun, try out new toys and socialise with one another in a friendly, warm and safe environment while their parents/mindres are nearby.

What parents and chilminders have said about the parent and toddler group:

"I like this group because my baby is happy."

"The group is company for my children."

"Everybody is so friendly and there is a good mix of cultures and races."

"The children are friendly to each other and they play together without fighting."

"Somewhere different to go, meet new people, try new toys."

"It's a great place to go to meet other mums and children."

"None of the children are left out and they can take their time to get involved with each other."

TESTIMONIALS

"When I started going to the lone parent group I was on my own with 4 children, finding life very hard, there I met people cared and listened.  I meet women there who have the same problems as myself, who later became good friends.  Now my life is better, all thanks to the group and the friends I meet there".

What I got from the Lone Parent Group

"When I joined the group 4 years ago, I was at the point of no return, and could not see the light at the end of the tunnel.  I was not able to talk to anyone about my life, or how I felt. After a few weeks of joining the group, I was feeling so relaxed with the other people that I started to talk, and with the help of Mary Grant and the other ladies in the group, they helped me so much that it's thanks to them that I am here today.  They really turned my life around.  That is why without the lone parent group I would not be able to write this letter".

"When I joined the lone parent group, almost 7 years ago, I was almost alone in bringing up my two children.  This group changed my life totally.  I had people to talk to and to give advise to me, as my son was (A.D.D.) suffering and hard to manageat times.  It taught me how to look after myself and also as I would be no good to my family otherwise.  I could honestly say I would not be alive only for the help of the group.  I also attended the play group with my own kids and now with children that I look after. There has been a great variety of people there over the past number of years".

"I've found the baby and toddler group a great sanity saver !!  I moved over here from the U.K. a few months ago and it is a great way to get to meet people and allows my son to try out different toys.  It's also useful to exchange baby tips and find out where has special offers on milk, nappies, ect...."
